We kicked off the second Art in the Park event at the community garden on Saturday July 9th. We aimed to have more artists than the previous year, which we definitely achieved with the garden being splashed with colour and a variety of media types. The boundaries were pushed with the spaces provided for the artists as the garden structure has evolved. The artists openly embraced the ad hoc locations they could display their artwork. Below delves into the artists on display and for anyone interested in their work can get in touch with the details provided for each.
Pottery Duo
These two artists brought unique glazing to complete your tablewear. Their work flooded the main picnic table and was a great addition amongst the prints and paintings at the show.

Garden Stained Glass & Pottery Coupling
They both brought a new flavour to their mediums, with Kate’s pottery having several uses for in the garden or indoors and her husband’s modern take on stained glass, it was a great addition to the garden space. Their pieces both felt woven into the raised bed structures and demonstrated to viewers how they can use their pieces in their own spaces.

Orchard Paintings & Textiles
Each artist had their own style of painting, prints and textiles on show. Rachele Cavina demonstrated artwork of the human body through bright colours and contrasting tones. Penny Li had illustrations of various animals, abstract acrylic disc paintings in blue, green, and orange tones, and canvas bags a prints shouting their support for the environment. Stretching from the orchard to the white tent was Heather Baillie’s artworks. These were light prints featuring various plants and food types along with bright and contrasting acrylic paintings animals and human forms. Overall a broad offering and lots to explore on their pages.

Garden Paintings and Mixed Media
Spanning between two of the orchard trees next to the main portion of the garden was works by Agita. She had acrylic paintings of human forms in an almost cubist style, using bright colours and contrasting patterns to bring her work to life. Between the two trees she hung custom painted t-shirts and canvas bags with various illustrations bringing them to life. Adjacent from Agita’s display was Lily Hick’s paintings. Hung above one of the raised beds were paintings that depicted imagery of daily life and objects and people that accompany this.

The event created a buzz on the warm day in The Meadows as people filtered throughout the garden. For many of the artists this was one of their first exhibitions of their work and hopefully a boost for them to get out a showcase their talent. We hope that all the participated and attended the event enjoyed what was on display. Look out for the artists work on display at the garden throughout the year and we will see you next year for the third Art in the Park.
