Our community garden over the years

I’ve come to the garden for just over one year now and last Saturday, it’s struck me how much it’s expanded in that fairly short time. So I asked Sarah how it was when it all started as I was curious to see the evolution.

Here is a little trip down memory lane and a testimony of all the hard work that’s been done over the last few years.

2014 – a wildflower plot is sown close to Lonsdale Terrace on North Meadow Walk

2016 – the Wildflower Plot has been extended and a floral sign is installed

2017 – the raised beds are installed in the current Community Garden location, behind the University library by the play park and tennis courts. The orchard and meadow are laid out. See how tiny the garden looked then!

2020 – the free library is installed thanks to the Tool Library

July 2021 – we sowed an area close to the Meadows Compass with wildflowers. A mixed result but we will try again!

Early 2022 – a little while later we added a hedge semi circle around the compost and more wildflower beds!

Want to know where all these locations are? Here is a little map of where the Community Garden is planting and keeping bees happy.
