All our environment days!

Our annual August days started in 2018, driven by concern about the damage to the grass, the smoke pollution, and dangerous litter affecting the Meadows. In fact, Fernando got in touch to urge action, so we organised a Don’t Burn The Meadows party and started collecting evidence of environmental damage.

We followed this up with meetings, and a Better BBQ party in 2019, which included creating a flock of sheep to remind folk about biodiversity… We were joined by Fringe actors and covered the Meadows with inspiring environmental messages.

By 2020, national concern about fires resulted in a petition, Leave the BBQ at Home, which we advocated for. We organised our own litterpicks to tackle the appalling mess on the Meadows. Come 2021, we were able to hold another event, and invited Dr Bruce Pearce to talk about our endangered soil. That was a brilliant gathering! In October that year, we held a COP debrief to share our various experiences.

In 2022, we were treated to a creative writing session with poet Elizabeth Rimmer, followed by a workshop on carbon conversations with Jean-Matthieu Gaunand.

This year, we are pursuing the series with a talk by Jeff Roberts, to discuss Scotland’s Energy Transition. There’ll be a picnic and craft activities, with bike demos, and the Stitch it Don’t Ditch it team. All Welcome… 12 August, starts at noon!
