Storms and fallen trees

With stormy weather starting in January, we can expect quite a few fallen trees by the end of March… Timber is a great resource for the community garden, and our first compost area was created eight years ago by Jenny. She dragged huge fallen branches across the Meadows to the garden, and used them to build a circular structure of great beauty. This compost nest lasted well, but eventually had to be replaced with a larger wicker build. We still use fallen branches for our wee fences, as they are so easy to repair and look great. Similarly, we are always delighted to get chippings from the woodmen – we can lay them over muddy areas and paths. Mulching is another use, so please drop more chippings off!
